This sweater is worked top down using the Lowkey method. The back begins at the upper back, where the back neckline and shoulders are shaped separately. Stitches are then picked up along each shoulder, and the sleeves are worked simultaneously as the yoke is constructed.

Since the back neckline is shaped first by working the back piece before continuing top down, this method creates a smooth, rounded back neckline that is difficult to achieve with conventional top-down construction. Picking up stitches from the cast-on edge of the back also creates a horizontal design line across the upper back as a distinctive design feature.

Because the sleeves are worked together with the body, there is no need to pick up sleeve stitches later, minimizing stitch pick-up. Only one yarn break is required when constructing the shoulders, making the process simpler and more efficient.
